Chelsea miss out on 3 points yet again

Chelsea headed into their fixture against Southampton on October 17th with a great chance of coming away with three points. The Blues were sitting on seven points ahead of the home game against the Saints vying for a top four spot in the table. The Blues were set up in a Lampard favorite 4-2-3-1 formation with stars like Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic, and Kai Havertz all leading the Chelsea attack. Christian Pulisic received his first start of the 2020/21 Premier League season and did not disappoint at all. The frustrating part of Chelsea's game was the defense, something all Chelsea fans and avid football fans alike know that hurts their chances of coming away with three points.

The first half was not so disappointing, Timo Werner showed exactly why Chelsea purchased him this summer from RB Leipzig bagging to sublime goals. His first goal started with an excellent no touch nutmeg through the Southampton center-back which then saw his blistering pace on display receiving the ball again and finishing the ball with class inside the box. The German's second goal came from an excellent ball over the top from midfield maestro Jorginho which found Werner running just in behind the Southampton defense. Timo beautifully chipped the ball over Southampton goalkeeper, Alex McCarthy, and then finished it nicely into the back of the net.

Chelsea were looking like a team challenging for the Premier League title in the first half as Frank Lampard said in his post match interview. However, the second half took away from the Blues' excellent first half performance ending 2-1.

Southampton were the first of the two teams to score with Che Adams bagging a goal in the fifty-seventh minute making it 2-2. However, two minutes later, club record signing Kai Havertz finished an excellent team goal started by a brilliant run from Christian Pulisic who then laid it off to Timo Werner who cooly passed it to his international teammate inside the box.

With the Blues up 3-2 with thirty minutes to play, they definitely needed another goal to kill the game and secure the three points with ease. Southampton's, 6' 6" Denmark defender, Jannik Vestergaard was lucky to redirect a cross from Theo Walcott in the ninetieth minute to tie up the game and take away three point from the Blues.
