The match at Selhurst Park started quickly with Olivier Giroud cooly putting the ball in the back of the net in the sixth minute to make it 1-0 for the Blues. Chelsea's confidence was put on display again after a good run of play in Crystal Palace's final third as Christian Pulisic brilliantly finished it off during the twenty-seventh minute to make it 2-0. The American has been really enjoying his time under Frank Lampard after the Premier League restart scoring three goals in five matches. Just after Pulisic's brilliant goal, Wilfried Zaha scored an unbelievable screamer from around thirty yards out. The shot came as a surprise to Chelsea players as the Nigerian International saw himself alone in the midfield and took advantage of the situation thirty-forth minute. This moment of the game can be noted as where Chelsea's strong start began to drop as they became complacent with their lead and didn't really control the game.

The Blues went into the half leading 2-1 with a lot of work needing to be done so that they could walk away from the game with three points.

As the second half got underway, Chelsea came back with more energy and vigor than they had ended the first. Substitutes Tammy Abraham and Ruben Loftus-Cheek made an instant impact when they came on in the sixty-fifth minute. Loftus-Cheek assisted Abraham with a beautiful chip in-between Sakho and Scott Dann as Tammy slotted the ball past Guaita to make it 3-1 for the Blues in the seventy-first minute.

Frank Lampard's managerial skills shone brightly with the pair putting the Blues up 3-1. However, a minute later, Christian Benteke scored to make it 3-2 with eighteen minutes left to play. Chelsea's form started to get fairly sloppy as Crystal Palace were pressing hard in the remaining minutes to find a third goal and scrape away a point.

The highlight of the game came in the final seconds when Christian Benteke was one-on-one with Kepa surely about to tie up the game. Then, out of nowhere, Kurt Zouma slid in as Benteke fired the shot and excellently tackled the Belgian saving the game for the Blues and securing the three points for Chelsea moving them up to third place.
